Act Now! Get Retiring Stampin’ Up! Products Before They’re Gone (Plus a Little Tidbit About Halle Berry)

For the first time, Stampin’ Up! has published the items from the current 2015 Holiday Catalog that will NOT be returning.  Click HERE to see the myriad of wonderful items that will be retiring for good once the Holiday Catalog sales period ends or once the items sell out.  You can take a look at my Portfolio page to see some of the fun items you can create with the items in the Holiday Catalog.  I’m sad that some of my favorites won’t be returning, but that just means that there will be room for many more great products in January 2016 when the new Occasions Catalog goes live.

Speaking of the new Occasions Catalog, guess what?  I have a copy in my hot little hands!  On Saturday, I had the opportunity to join nearly 400 other demonstrators at Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage Local event in Tampa, Florida.  It was a great day!  Even though the number of attendees may sound small, it was actually a huge event!  It was Stampin’ Up!’s first ever GLOBAL event.  The main “convention” was held in Brussels, Belgium, but because of modern-day technology, the event was broadcast to eleven other locations around the globe where Stampin’ Up! demonstrators gathered to watch, listen, learn, and have a blast!

I can’t show you any of the upcoming products that will be offered in the new Occasions Catalog just yet, but let me just say that you’ll want to act TODAY and take advantage of one of this week’s WEEKLY DEALS before they end tonight.  Just trust me and buy the Festive Flower Builder Punch, okay?  You are going to DIE when you see what is in store for that little punch!  You won’t believe how ADORABLE it is…(You can order it HERE.)

Finally, a special shout-out of thanks for all of your support and encouragement during my quest for the 2016 Artisan Design Team.  There’s always next year!  Also, a  special thanks to my daughters for reminding me of THIS ARTICLE of encouragement that I once wrote on their behalf about an important lesson we can ALL learn from Halle Berry.

October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Kit Alternate Idea Number Two: Add Some Texture

I like to make projects that are out-of-the-box, especially when I can use my creativity to come up with alternative uses for the contents that come in each month’s Paper Pumpkin Kit.  However, for one of this month’s cards, I didn’t need to go too crazy.  All I did was add some texture to the background of the “Thanks” card.  Take a look:

stampin up paper pumpkin october 2015 alternate ideas

I used the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Background Folder and then assembled the card according to the wonderful instruction brochure that is included with every Paper Pumpkin Kit.

The Paper Pumpkin Kit for October 2015 also includes envelopes that are specially sized to fit the three different sizes of cards that are included in the kit.  I used the Envelopes Liners Framelits Dies to cut fun coordinating envelope liners from the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack available in the Annual Catalog.

    Aren’t these color combinations fantastic?

Did you know that you can order previously-released Paper Pumpkin Kits and their respective refill kits?  You can!  Click HERE for the details.  It’s never too late to get in on the Paper Pumpkin action.

Be sure to check back Monday for a fun tip on how to use Stampin’ Up!’s clear acrylic blocks to make your stamping projects go much faster.  I’ll be showing you the fun tip and how you can use it to make the card below from the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Kit.  See you then!

October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Kit: Alternate Idea Number One

Is fall in the air where you live?  I can’t believe that Halloween is this Saturday because as usual, it is 79 degrees and sunny outside.  I live in south Florida in the land of eternal summer.  I can’t look outside and easily be reminded of what season it is.  My mind usually plays tricks on me.  I know that a holiday is approaching, but because it is always warm outside and the palm trees are always green, I have to picture a calendar in my head to know what holiday it is.

Another way to be reminded of what holiday is approaching is to work on the current Paper Pumpkin Kit.  One of the many reasons why I love Paper Pumpkin is because the kits are timely.  Remember last month’s Halloween treat bags?  I have the bags displayed around my house serving as decorations while I await the spooky holiday’s arrival.  The October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Kit is no exception.  As I describe in the reveal video here, the colors used in this month’s kit are perfect for fall.  They aren’t what you would initially expect to see as fall color combos (old olive, watermelon wonder, hello honey, crumb cake) but they work!

After I assemble one of each of the contents of the Paper Pumpkin kit the way the kit is intended, I like to let my creative juices flow a little bit and come up with alternative ideas.  Here is a pic of the way the note card is intended:

stampin up paper pumpkin october 2015

My first alternate idea for the the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin kit is this little 3″ x 3″ butterfly note card:

stampin up paper pumpkin october 2015

stampin up paper pumpkin october 2015

It’s great to be able to have the basic elements that are included in the kit and then add to them if you so desire.  That is why I love what I do so much!  There is no end to the creative possibilities!

    Card-Maker’s Block

We’ve all heard of writer’s block.  We know it’s a real thing.  But have you ever heard of card-maker’s block?  It’s a real thing, too.  I know because I have experienced it.  It happened to me yesterday.  I couldn’t come up with anything.  Everything I tried turned out disastrous.

I’m embarrassed to show you.  However, I thought it would be fun to do a post of my mishaps.  I was trying to engineer windows that would pull open to reveal a cozy indoor fireplace scene.  No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t figure out how to get the window on the left side to swing open.  I refused to YouTube it because I was determined to figure it out for myself.  (I’m stubborn that way sometimes.)  I gave up.  What was supposed to be a pull-out card with a fireplace scene using the Festive Fireplace Stamp Set, turned out to be a jeweled gold window winter scene.  Go figure.

stampin up happy scenes stamp set

I trashed the swinging window idea.  I was second-guessing myself the entire time I was making this card.  My mind was playing tricks on me!  Who has a gold window frame?  Stars in the sky aren’t gold.  What does the jeweled-toned piece of paper from the Season of Cheer Designer Series Paper have to do with a quaint outdoorsy winter theme?  How can I make a card without embellishments?  What?  No ribbon??

stampin up season of cheer designer series paper

To calm myself down, I made a standard size card and added a piece of Gold 1/8″ Ribbon.

stampin up season of cheer dsp and happy scenes stamp set

And then the mind games started all over again.  No sentiment?  Did I add too much “snow?”  You get the idea.

I finished it all off by eating a bowl of ice cream and I felt much better.  The end.

Friends! First, a big thank you to all who have recently subscribed to my YouTube channel and who have signed up to receive my newsletter. I promise you lots of fun as we create projects together!

Here is a little sneak-peek video of the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Kit. I can’t wait until I can get home from having my greys covered (at what point do I just stop all this fuss and go natural) so I can get busy making the cards and more importantly, coming up with some alternative ideas for additional projects.

As you will see in the video, the stamp set in the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin Kit is fantastic!  The set alone is well- worth the price of the entire kit.  The cards in the kit can be used for fall, spring, or summer.  It is wonderful!  See for yourself… 😉
